I was at my aun't (on a building) when my father receives a call: The Central Market of Maputo City was on fire. We went to looked out through the window, and we could see a mass of grey smoke comming from the south of the city. It was 9:30pm when we saw it first. After 10 minutes we started seeing a bit of orange and yellow mixed. It was not good, the fire was spreading. Another 10 minutes past again, and we could see the breaking news passing on STV (Sua Televisão). They showed an un-edited video of the fire. There, we could see that the most affected parts of the market were the Vegetables zone. The reason hasn't been identified yet. Pictures will be posted as soon as I can get them. The central market is a very old market and It's infra-structure is a historical monument. Here is an image of the actual (well, not the actual with the burns): Here is an old one: CLICK HEREEnjoy I'll update soon

Guys, I got some news and new pics about the fire. It is told that a possible coal stove originated the fire at the central market of Maputo, that affected 82 market stalls, on Thursday. Here are the new pics: Firemen try anything possible to stop the Fire. The firemen were not enough. Firemen from the Airport and MOZAL (Mozambique Aluminium) were comunicated to help them as well. The owners of the Stalls help the firemen too. It seems that the govenrment opened a bank account where people may donate some money to help the owners of the Stalls that were affected by the fire. I'm deeply sorry to anyone whom has lost a Stall in that fire. I also saw in TV that when the firemen were begining to stop the fire, they did not allow anyone to enter the market risking of robbing any of the products inside. And the people answered: "It's better to even rob them because they will all be lost." That's all the news I got till now.
